Janis Hoplin

100 Artists, One Forest & a Giant Fibre Art Toad Named Janis Hoplin EMMA International Artist Collaboration 2022

Every two years, one hundred artists from around the world gather in the heart of Saskatchewan’s boreal forest for an immersive, collaborative experience like no other. With creativity pulsing through the trees, they push boundaries, try unfamiliar mediums, and connect deeply with both the land and each other.

One of the highlights of this year's gathering? Meet Janis Hoplin, a bold, imaginative fibre art sculpture that's equal parts whimsical and wild. Perched on a sculpted wooden structure, Janis is a toad like no other: her lime-green, scale-textured body is peppered with tiny beaded warts and shimmering embellishments, while her wide, expressive eyes sparkle with felted magic. She’s more than just a sculpture. Janis is a symbol of creative freedom singing at the Nesslin Campsite in Big River, SK. https://www.emmacollaboration.com/
