Tissue

From November to December 2021, I was given the opportunity to showcase my skills as an artist working in textile installation in The Bridges Art Movement Gallery located downtown Saskatoon. This residency provided time to create work in space, and to introduce my creations to the public.

My work in particular, is made for a wide audience. People of all ages and cultural backgrounds can enjoy my sculptures and installations because they have the ability to exercise the imagination and bring forth nostalgic and associative nature in all of us.

The vision for Tissue was to build an all-encompassing environment. Utilizing the entire gallery, the floor, three walls and ceiling to display soft sculpture. I wanted to conjure the feeling of walking into a human body. With the onset of Covid-19, health and the protection of the body has on all of our minds. "Tissue" set the “stage” using vibrant reds and reflective fabric constructed into textured organic shapes that were layered in space.  The gallery morphed into a semi-contained lung, breathing in and out as you enter and moved through the space.
