Vermont Studio Center in Johnson VT, from September 8-26, 2025. At the VSC Residence Program I was able to make new work inspired by my surroundings nestled in the small rural town of Johnson. I was surrounded by Fall colours of vast tall growing trees and natural streams and glittering rock faces. Being in nature in this new space made me consider what it means to escape your "home life" and the elements such as the extreme forest fires and smoke that blew in from the north just as I was leaving for my residency. I made 2 large-scale canopy pieces made of fanciful fabrics entitled Blood-moon / Milky Way, to honor the devastation that northern communities were facing and air pollution that blanketed Saskatchewan.   This was such a contrast to the clean humid air of Vermont. I was especially taken with the closeness to the Milky Way and the clear night skies. My work paid homage to the elemental contrast of the 2 very different night skies. One represents the clear starry galaxy and the other beautiful but ominous with casts of reds, depicting smoke from the atmosphere onto the moon.
